Myoskeletal Alignment of Scoliosis, Sciatic & Sacroiliac Pain
This upbeat skill-enhancing seminar teaches “joint-springing and joint-stretching” routines to relieve protective muscle guarding responsible for low back and sacroiliac pain. Participants also learn a basic structural integration routine to ‘find and fix’ compensatory scoliotic patterns. Trust This, Doubt That: Evaluating the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in Published Research
The buzz around evidence-based practice means that we must use available scientific evidence, our clinical experiences, and client preferences when deciding how to care for clients.  This session will focus on how to assess the variety of evidence that is beginning to demonstrate the benefits of massage therapy.   The session will also consider the sources of error that exist in making clinical observations and measurements and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various observational and experimental research designs, exploring how researchable questions are created, how experiments are designed and executed, and how reports are published.  4 CE Hours.

Instructors: Karen Boulanger and Glenn Hymel
Karen Boulanger has been in practice since 1999 and has published research on public health and massage. She is also the Practice Section editor of the IJTMB.




Glenn M. Hymel, EdD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Loyola University New Orleans. His principal areas of specialization include ducational psychology, research & statistics, and the psychology of personal adjustment.

Neuromuscular Evaluation & Treatment Plans
Dramatically increase your NMT effectiveness.  Practice evaluation skills including posture, range of motion tests, movement pattern analysis, simple orthopedic tests, using trigger point and dermatone charts.  Use each of these to develop a therapy plan for specific muscles including movement re-education and what to massage, stretch, or strengthen.  4 CE Hours.

Dennis Price started NMT in 1984 and has extensively studied corrective exercise.  He has taught various sports medicine events in five countries.

Cherie Sohnen-Moe is an adjunct professor at Clayton College and owner of Sohnen-Moe Associates, an approved continuing education provider with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and the Florida State Department of Health. She has written more than 100 articles.


Unlocking Computer Shoulder (repeat)
As therapists, we recognize the prevalence of postural distortion and pain patterns associated with computer use. Our practices are full of clients seeking relief from habitual job functions where computer use is required, coupled with hours of “surfing the web.” This class will focus on unwinding the cumulative effects of elevated shoulders, kyphotic spinal curvature, medial rotation of the humerus and forward head posture. 4 CE Hours. The Ethics of Client Communication: Talking to Clients About Their Health
How many times have you worked with a client and noticed something that made you wonder about his or her health? How many times have you felt uncomfortable discussing it? This class addresses the delicate art of communicating professionally and with open hearts when we have concerns about our clients’ well being. Basic principles of active listening will be reviewed and employed as students break into small groups to role-play a variety of difficult client-therapist conversations, all based on real-life situations provided by past participants. 4 CE Hours.

Ruth Werner is a massage therapist, writer, educator and the Education Chair and President Elect of the Massage Therapy Foundation.  She has served on committees for the Utah Department of Public Licensing, the AMTA, the National Certifying Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. She was the AMTA Council of Schools Teacher of the Year Award recipient in 2005.

Managing Physical Stress with Therapeutic Massage
A fun, interactive workshop that will help reduce your own stress while reinforcing tips and techniques to use with your clients and students. After reviewing some stress theory and stress assessment tools, the focus will shift to practical tips for reducing stress related problems. 4 CE Hours.

Instructor: Jeff Forman
Jeffrey Forman Ph.D. NCTMB, a professor and massage therapy program coordinator at De Anza College in Cupertino, California is also a speaker, author and stress reduction consultant.


Just Say NO! to the Thumb & Awkward Postures (repeat)
Designed to assist practitioners in preventing occupational injuries, this course emphasizes two essential rules of safe body mechanics: Say NO to the thumb and avoid awkward postures. Participants will learn a “no thumb” approach to deep work. We will also examine how awkward postures can be replaced with ergonomically sound alternatives. Session is repeated. 4 CE Hours.  (Hands On Course)

Instructor: Barbara Frye
Barbara Frye has been a massage educator and therapist in private practices since 1990, served as a lead instructor at Ashmead College, coordinated IBM’s body mechanics program, and authored Body Mechanics for Manual Therapists: A Functional Approach to Self-Care, 3rd Edition. She has a massage and Feldenkrais practice at the Pluspunkt Center for Therapy and Advanced Studies near Zurich, Switzerland.


Trio-Trades for Assessment of Body Mechanics & Applied Movement for Massage (repeat)
This three-part assessment utilizes adaptable, take-home checklists for assessing body mechanics and massage "table-side" practices. Using "before and after" demos and discussions, teams of three therapists take turns observing, working and receiving massage in 30 minute segments. Suggestions for modifications and evaluation round out this fun, interactive workshop. 4 CE Hours.  (Hands On Course)

Reinventing "the light bulb" effect about bodymechanics, remains a passion in Hendrickson’s practice of the past 14 years, and currently, as a massage educator.


Visceral Manipulation Applications for Whiplash
This specialized course focuses on the impact of whiplash and trauma from new evaluation and treatment perspectives. VM employs precise evaluation techniques to determine the cause of the dysfunction and applies specifically-placed manual forces to encourage the normal mobility and tone of the connective tissues.
