question: What is the biggest concern facing the
profession? Many of you share similar
concernseducational standards and the quality of
massage therapists; being able to make a living in the
profession; issues relating to integration of
therapeutic massage into the medical community; and
consumer education about massage. Many of the responses

are some additional responses we
received.
It
disturbs me to hear of the number of massage therapists
currently practicing that are not providing satisfactory
service. I believe the profession is becoming flooded
with non-caring therapists, educationally incapable of
providing a thorough, effective massage.

Poorly
trained, inadequately trained massage therapists who
give such bad massages.

The
massage therapy profession needs to find a way to
enforce the laws against illegal massage parlors.

Becoming burnt out too early, being overworked and not
being able to use this as a long-term profession.

I believe our biggest concerns are education and
licensure. I do not believe that there is enough
education required in most states and there isnt
standardization like in other professions, especially
the medical profession.

We need
to define educational standards, recognize and be able
to defend them.
