Evanston, IL – The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) publication mtj (massage therapy journal)
has won three prestigious national awards from the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP). mtj was awarded
the gold EXCEL award in the categories of General Excellence and Most Improved for an association magazine with a circulation
of 50,000 to 100,000. It also received the EXCEL Extra Award, which recognizes outstanding innovation in association publishing.
“The magazine flawlessly rises
above its inception to present its material in a clean,
calm, well-paced fashion,” the EXCEL judges noted.
“This magazine raises the bar to incredible heights –
not only for this publication and this association, but
for the entire industry.”
More than 150 awards were handed
out in Washington DC at the SNAP EXCEL annual
competition, which recognizes the exemplary work of
association publishers. This year a record-number of
entries were received. The EXCEL program judges more
than 1,000 magazines, newsletters, scholarly journals,
electronic publications and websites in the areas of
editorial quality, design, general excellence, most
improved and more.
“We
share these awards with our members and volunteers.
Their feedback about what they wanted from a publication
was invaluable to the redesign process,” said Valerie
Danner, mtj managing editor.
The awards capped off a
year-and-a-half of work that went into the redesign of
mtj, which focused on improving content, as well
as overhauling the look of the publication.
The American Massage Therapy
Association is a non-profit, professional association
with more than 56,000 members throughout the United
States and in some 27 other countries. The association
is directed by volunteer leadership chosen through its
national election and fosters ongoing,
direct-member-involvement through its 51 chapters.
